About This Release

The Berneron Mirage 38 Miroir is an 18K gold dress watch with no traditional dial, using its mirrored Calibre 283 as the display. The time is read from curved gold hands against the movement's guilloché, bridges, and mainplate steps. Available in white or yellow gold, it starts at CHF 72,500 excluding VAT.

Collector Note

The Mirage 38 Miroir takes the asymmetrical Mirage that launched Berneron in 2023 and turns its movement into the face of the watch. Sylvain Berneron did not simply flip the existing Calibre 233. Only about one-fifth of its components carry over to the new Calibre 283, which was reworked around a mirrored layout because the Mirage's shape rules out a conventional inversion. How do you read the time without a dial? The movement does the job of hour markers. The sector guilloché and train bridge mark the hours from 11 to 6, while steps in the mainplate mark the rest, with screws on the balance bridge indicating 7 and 10. The visible fourth wheel replaces a seconds hand and shows that the watch is running. That approach has divided opinion, as inverted watches often do. Critics question its legibility, while admirers see the display as the point of the design. Berneron's asymmetrical Mirage also has strong credentials, having won the 2024 GPHG Audacity Prize. For collectors, the Miroir is a more radical expression of the same idea: the mechanics define the design.

Collector Value

Series A will be produced at 36 pieces per color per year for 10 years, for a planned total of 360 pieces per color. Its appeal comes from the entirely mirrored Calibre 283, all-gold construction, and the design pedigree of the GPHG-winning Mirage. With first deliveries scheduled for October 2027, the Miroir does not yet have an established secondary market range.
