The IWC Pilot's Watch Performance Chronograph 41 Year of the Goat (IW388310) celebrates the 2027 Lunar New Year with a golden "panda" dial, black ceramic tachymeter bezel and a gold-plated rotor engraved with goats. Limited to 500 pieces in a 41mm titanium case, it runs on IWC's in-house Calibre 69385 and is priced at $13,100.
IWC has marked each Lunar New Year with a special edition, traditionally drawn from the dressy Portugieser collection. For the Year of the Goat, which begins in February 2027, IWC breaks that pattern and turns to its racing-inspired Pilot's Watch Performance Chronograph, introduced in 2023 alongside its Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One partnership. It adds a fixed ceramic tachymeter bezel to the classic Pilot's Chronograph, giving the aviation tool watch a motorsport edge in the spirit of the Daytona and the Carrera. The dial: where most Lunar New Year watches lean on red, IWC chose gold, the holiday's other auspicious color, linked to the tradition of gifting money. The sunburst golden dial carries gold-plated hands and indices, set against black sub-dials and a black ceramic bezel with gold-lacquered tachymeter markings, creating a "golden panda" look. The hidden detail: the eighth day of each month shows the Chinese character for goat in the date window instead of the number 8, because the goat is the eighth sign of the Chinese zodiac. Collectors will see it appear once a month. The caseback: through the sapphire display back, the in-house Calibre 69385 carries a special gold-plated rotor engraved with goats, a long-standing Chinese symbol of happiness and good fortune. The caseback is marked "Year of the Goat 2027" and "One of 500." The movement: IWC Calibre 69385 is an in-house automatic column-wheel chronograph with bidirectional winding and a 46-hour power reserve, with day-date display. Case and wearability: a 41mm titanium case, light and comfortable for daily wear, with button-style pushers, a fluted screw-in crown, a convex anti-reflective sapphire crystal and 100m water resistance. It comes on a black calfskin strap with a titanium pin buckle, using IWC's EasX-CHANGE quick-release system. Who it's for: chronograph collectors who want a Lunar New Year piece that wears like a sports watch rather than a dress watch, and IWC fans who want a numbered edition of the Performance Chronograph with real cultural storytelling.
Limited to 500 numbered pieces, the Year of the Goat edition is IWC's first Lunar New Year release built on the Performance Chronograph rather than the Portugieser, which makes it a distinct entry in the annual series. Zodiac editions draw strong demand in Asia, and the gold dial, goat-character date and engraved rotor give it collector appeal beyond the standard model. Expect it to sell through ahead of the February 2027 Lunar New Year.
