Last updated: October 21, 2026
The KNIS Meteorite pairs a genuine Muonionalusta meteorite dial, showing its natural Widmanstätten crystal pattern, with a rose gold-tone 38mm case and black crocodile-pattern leather strap. Assembled in Japan by the Kyoto brand KNIS and powered by a Miyota automatic, it brings a material usually reserved for luxury Swiss watches to an accessible price.
KNIS (pronounced "Nisu") was founded in Kyoto in 2021 by Keisuke Nii to showcase Japanese watchmaking craftsmanship. Its signature model is the Meteorite, and this rose gold-tone version gives the collection's best-known dial a warmer, dressier look. The dial is cut from the Muonionalusta meteorite, which fell near the Sweden-Finland border about a million years ago; the first fragment was found in 1906 north of the Arctic Circle. Its lattice of crossing lines, the Widmanstätten pattern, formed as molten metal cooled over millions of years in space and cannot be reproduced on Earth, so every dial is unique. Faceted, diamond-cut rose gold-tone hour markers and lumed hands frame the texture, with "Meteorite" script under the logo and "Japan Made" at 6 o'clock. The 38mm case is 11mm thick and 46mm lug to lug, a size KNIS deliberately chose to sit comfortably rather than overwhelm the wrist. A sapphire crystal sits on top, and a screw-in see-through caseback shows the Citizen Miyota 8215 automatic movement. Water resistance is 10 ATM. The black genuine cowhide strap has a crocodile pattern and a D-buckle (deployant) clasp, a detail usually found on luxury straps, which protects the leather and keeps the watch from slipping off. KNIS sells direct under an SPA model, which is how it keeps meteorite dials well below typical Swiss pricing.
KNIS is a young direct-to-consumer brand, so this is a watch to wear and enjoy rather than a resale investment. Its appeal is the material: a genuine Muonionalusta meteorite dial, with a pattern unique to each watch, in a Japan-assembled automatic at a fraction of what Swiss brands charge for meteorite. The rose gold-tone case makes this the dressiest expression of KNIS's signature model.
