About This Release

The MIDO Multifort TV Big Date Día de los Muertos Alebrijes (ref. M049.526.11.081.02) is the first watch in MIDO's annual Day of the Dead series to use the 1970s-inspired TV case. It pairs a 12-layer lacquered calavera and alebrijes dial with a bone-shaped "1" in the big date window, three-color Super-LumiNova, and the 80-hour Caliber 80 with a Nivachron hairspring. It launched October 1, 2026, with a bracelet, mesh bracelet and red rubber strap included.

Collector Note

Since 2020, MIDO has released a new Día de los Muertos watch every autumn, and every edition until now used the round Commander case. The 2026 Alebrijes edition breaks that pattern by moving the series into the Multifort TV, MIDO's cushion-shaped case inspired by 1970s television screens. That makes it a clear turning point in the series and the easiest edition to identify at a glance. The dial is the reason to buy it. A central sugar skull (calavera) is surrounded by alebrijes, the brightly colored fantasy creatures created by Mexico City artisan Pedro Linares López in the 1930s. The figures include a Xoloitzcuintli, the dog believed to guide souls to the afterlife, along with a toucan, a chameleon and wild cats. They are cut in negative relief into a grey-to-black gradient dial and finished with 12 layers of colored lacquer. After dark, three colors of Super-LumiNova (turquoise, green and orange) light up the skull and creatures. The best detail is in the big date at 12 o'clock: the numeral "1" is shaped like a small bone, so the theme carries into the date itself. Specs are strong for the price. The 316L steel case measures 40 x 39.2 mm, 11.48 mm thick, with a wearable 46.85 mm lug-to-lug, a screw-down crown and 100 m water resistance. Inside is the MIDO Caliber 80 automatic, with 80 hours of power reserve and an antimagnetic Nivachron balance spring, visible through a sapphire caseback. It ships in a dedicated Alebrijes box with three quick-release options: a three-link steel bracelet with deployant clasp, a Milanese mesh bracelet, and a red textured rubber strap. In the US, Teddy Baldassarre has exclusive sales from October 1 to 15, 2026, at $1,525. In Europe, the suggested retail price is €1,450. Quick facts: Reference M049.526.11.081.02. Launch date October 1, 2026. Case 40 x 39.2 mm steel. Movement MIDO Caliber 80 automatic, 80-hour power reserve. Water resistance 100 m. Special Edition (not numbered).

Collector Value

This is a Special Edition, not a numbered limited edition, so supply should be broader than earlier editions in the series, which were limited to between 300 and 777 pieces. Its collectibility comes from being the first Día de los Muertos MIDO in the Multifort TV case, which marks a clear break within the series. Three straps, an 80-hour movement and a 12-layer lacquer dial at about $1,525 make it a strong value. Expect it to hold up best among collectors of the full 2020–2026 series.
