Rolex revives the spirit of the legendary ref. 8171 with the new Perpetual Padellone, its first watch in 73 years to unite day, date, month and moonphase. The 39mm Everose-gold bracelet edition adds an instantaneous annual calendar powered by the 5Hz calibre 7190.
Named after the collector nickname for Rolex ref. 8171, the Perpetual Padellone marks a major return to complicated watchmaking for the Crown. Its patented Haplos system recognizes 30- and 31-day months, requires only one correction each year at the end of February, and changes the day, date and month simultaneously at midnight. The grained intense-white dial combines a central blue pointer date with a blue enamel moonphase disc featuring full and new moons crafted from meteorite. Reference 53505-0003 is the full-Everose version fitted to Rolex’s seven-link Settimo bracelet. It joins the permanent collection rather than a numbered limited edition, but its historical connection and the rarity of complicated Rolex models should generate exceptionally strong early collector demand.
The first modern Rolex to reunite day, date, month and moonphase in one watch, directly referencing the highly collectible ref. 8171. This full-Everose Settimo-bracelet edition is the most expensive of the three launch configurations and should attract significant early collector interest. However, it is a permanent-production model and its long-term secondary-market value remains unproven.
